GeoAlerts
What is GeoAlerts?
GeoAlerts is a very powerful feature of GPSToday. It allows you to configure your device to perform various actions or notify you whenever important activity occurs in your neighborhood.
How does it work?
You can set a geoalert on a group, or even an invidual geopost.
Group GeoAlert
When setting a geoalert in a group, you can specify to be notified whenever any POI or user in the group comes within, or moves beyond, a specified distance from your current location.
For example, when on the highway, you could set an alert for 2 miles in a "coffee shop" group. As soon as any coffee shop comes within 2 miles, your phone will vibrate/notify you in time to take the highway exit. Similarly for the speed traps group.
If you have friends using GPSToday and you share location with each other in a group, just set a geoalert on that group to be notified whenever someone is close to you.
You could also create a "myalerts" group and set a geoalert on it, and give access to family members to this group. Now your spouse can simply create a post at the dry-cleaner's address in this group from the desktop while sitting at home, and whenever you pass close by to the drycleaner your phone will alert you with "Pick up drycleaning right now". This is a great way to send/receive messages such that they are delivered only when the recipient is at the target spot, so there is no chance of forgetting.
Post GeoAlert
Post GeoAlerts operate on individual posts. For example you could set a geoalert on your "Home" post, and configure it to run an external script which turns on wifi on your phone.
Or you could set a geoalert on a close friend or your spouse, to be notified when that person either goes too far away, or comes close by.
