What does GPSToday do?
GPSToday is designed to run in the background and attempt to always keep a fix on your location without draining the battery. This allows the software to provide many location based services like your local weather, your current street address, programmed geoalerts, and geosocial services like sharing your location or collaboratively accessing high quality points of interest.
How do I run the GPS?
Full-Screen App: Tap the red satellite dish icon in the lower left corner of the app. Today-Plugin users tap the big red square on the left. A small green dot will appear inside the red box, indicating that it is search for satellites. After a short interval, the red box will turn fully green, indicating that the GPS has a lock on your position. For the first fix after you install GPSToday, you might need to go outdoors and run the GPS in persistent mode for upto 10 minutes.
Why does the GPS turn off by itself after a short time whenever I try to run it?
GPSToday can run the GPS in two modes: QuickFix or Persistent-Mode. Tapping the red dish icon always starts the GPS in QuickFix mode. Also, GPSToday periodically activates your GPS in QuickFix mode to update your location, and prime the GPS hardware. It is meant to run unattended, and therefore it turns off the GPS as soon as it obtains a fix, or fails because you are indoors. To learn how to run the GPS in persistent mode, follow on to the next question.
How can I keep the GPS persistently on until I stop it?
Either by holding down and sliding the red icon and sliding and dropping it over on the right when the slider turns green, or by selecting "More->Run GPS" in the Menu. Note that in this mode, the GPS will continue to run until you stop it by repeating either of the above actions.
How does GPSToday affect battery life on my device?
In the default configuration, GPSToday will typically reduce your battery life by 10-15% over the course of a day. This much is usually not an issue for the vast majority of users. To have full control over battery consumption, you can increase the automatic periodic quick-fix interval by tapping on the timer icon on the main screen. The more frequently you update your fix or run the GPS in persistent mode, the more it will affect battery life.
What resolutions are supported?
All resolutions from 240x240 upto 480x800 are supported.
What about non-touchscreen WM smartphones?
